The objective of the project is to develop and apply new passive-imaging methods applicable at scales from tens of meters to kilometres (deposit scale to lithospheric scale).

The methods will be applied in a mine area, with abundant existing data for method validation and with important targets for imaging.
Seismic sources used for the imaging will include ambient noise, tectonic earthquakes and quarry and mine blasts
One approach will involve analysis and waveform inversion of auto-correlation functions, producing new tools for imaging seismic discontinuities (reflectors).
Another approach will focus on the imaging of seismic velocities at depth using cross-correlation of high-frequency waves from local seismic events
Interferometry using ambient-noise and teleseismic signals will provide additional data sampling.

Having completed a engineering degree in Venezuela, my desire to have an international experience brought me to Europe where I completed a Master degree in Complementary computer studies at University Lyon 1, in France.

Throughout my career, I have worked on several occasions in activities linked to Linux administration. I was, for example, responsible for developing automation scripts in shell and I have also participated in the execution and editing of Makefiles to install software on Linux-Debian platforms.

I also had the opportunity to work in the installation and administration of LAMP stack (Apache, MySQL, PHP) and in database management in a final internship at WikiVox.

I have skills in C programming, Scilab, Matlab and Shell scripting acquired during my participation in a group of software development for seismic data processing and modeling.

My experience living in France and Ireland has made me keen to continue living abroad and accordingly I would be happy to relocate anywhere in the world, and would consider it a privilege to do so. Focused on regional basin analysis for identifying, mapping, and evaluating plays, leads, and prospects by integrating different types of data from wells, 2D/3D seismic, geological maps, gravity and magnetic surveys.

Responsibilities:

Interpretation of seismic data for the construction of structural-stratigraphic models in four (4) exploratory projects in Eastern Venezuelan Basin.
Evaluation and documentation of exploratory prospect in Venezuelan basins for selection of drilling locations.
Generation of 3D structural models and geological maps for identification of oil traps.
Generation of 2D-3D velocity model for time-depth conversion.
Calculation of seismic attributes and quantitative seismic analysis for determination of rock and reservoir properties.
Estimation of exploratory prospects risk as output of the structural model (Trap).
Estimation of risk for drilling proposal, support the evaluation of exploration and appraisal plan in structural complex areas.
Proactive member of an interdisciplinary team formed by geoscientists, reservoir and drilling engineers with the main goal of proposing new drilling locations

Perfil Omar Medina

Geophysical Engineer - Master in Earth Sciences - with six years of working experience in the Petroleum Industry. Have worked in Hydrocarbon Exploration and Development Projects, in sedimentary basins of Colombia (Los Llanos Basin, Yari-Caguan Basin, Putumayo Basin, and Valle Alto, Medio, and Bajo of Magdalena Basins) and Venezuela (Eastern Venezuela Basin). Strong geological background, proven experience in structural and stratigraphic interpretation of 2D and 3D seismic data in extensional and compressive tectonic environments, tie of well and seismic data, regional basin analysis for identifying, mapping, and evaluation of plays, leads, and prospects, time to depth conversion of maps, integration of data of different disciplines, quality control of seismic data, seismic attributes interpretation and analysis, participation in the design of acquisition parameters for 2D and 3D seismic surveys, and computer programming applied to geosciences. Analytical, self-motivated, hard worker, able to work under extreme time pressure, proven adaptability and flexibility, succeeding in interpretation and academic environment, able to work alone, in company, and in multidisciplinary teams.
